For several years now, searching online, comparing and reviewing restaurants is the most normal thing in the world. Gradually, digital transformation also has a deeper impact on our hospitality sector. Smarter management of the kitchen and ingredients, allergen & nutritional tracking, personnel and planning, stronger customer experience and personal service from the time of booking, learning from data and optimization of the net return...

In Belgium we have a lot of great start-ups and scale-ups, some examples:

  • Lightspeed Restaurant (Ghent): Started in 2011 by Zhong Yuan Xu (Ghent) as POSIOS and sold in 2014 to the Canadian company Lightspeed. Market leader in POS systems for the hotel and catering industry with great focus on app-connectivity ecosystem. The resto-development team still operates from Ghent.

  • Growzer (Niel / Antwerp): the innovator in your kitchen: stock management, orders, menu engineering and cost control.

  • Apicbase (Schoten / Antwerp): fast-growing start-up that raised 800.000 EUR in 2017. Cloud software with which professional kitchens can manage their processes and optimize ingredients to finished menu.

  • Wizer: start-up by Neal & Tim of the family-run Hotels Van der Valk. If your restaurant gets bigger, you lose touch with the room and your customers. Via Wizer the customer receives a mini-tablet where he can give feedback. Immediately the room staff gets scores and can adjust, as owner you have a transparent view on the satisfaction of your customers.

  • Aapi (Antwerp): one of the only independent staff planning tools on the Belgian market. Aapi is much more than just a planning tool, it links your resto data so that you get insight into figures such as net returns: social secretariat, accounting (YUKI, Exact Online), kitchen management (Growzer), Dimona (RSZ), POS system (Lightspeed , Trivec), Interim payroll (Staffable)

  • (Lommel): one of the market leaders in personnel planning. Was recently (Aug 2018) taken over by Protime (SD Worx group).

  • CrewPlanner (Antwerp): strong staff planning tool for lager teams such as catering & events.

  • Horecamakers (Ghent): help you to deal with used energy in your catering / kitchen by using smart switches and domotics.

  • AreTheyHappy (Ghent): centralize in no time what your customers are saying about your restaurant on social media (FaceBook, TripAdvisor, Instagram, Fourquare, Google ...) and use this to your advantage. AreTheyHappy started via the accelerator "The Birdhouse" in Ghent and recently raised a good amount of money and is growing strongly.

  • Resengo (Antwerp) and Tablebooker (Zaventem) the established values ​​for online table reservation; but also strongly active in social marketing and customer CRM.
